For safety reasons, it is necessary to overcome a certain resistance when opening the knife. Combining the safety and very smooth operation, the Ultra-Glide knives (such as Smith&Wesson 24/7 Tanto Folder), are often mistaken for assisted opening knife. How surprised are all the people, when closing the knife! There are no springs in the knife, that you'd have to overcome. The reason is simple: As soon as your finger puts enough force on the index flipper to exceed the safety resistance limit, the released force is sufficient to fully open the knife.

One of the undeniable advantages of the flipper (besides the simpler opening of the knife) is, that in the open state it creates a small guard - it prevents your hand from sliding on the blade of the knife while stabbing, for example.

The blade locks itself open with a standard Liner Lock.
