Frankford ARSENAL Platinum Series CASE TRIM AND PREP CENTER
When deciding what preparation to use for modifying cartridge cases, I was interested in this version of the cartridge modification station, which, in addition to the basic option, also offers the option to shorten cartridge cases, all within one device. Other competing products deal with shortening with a separate product. As for the price, this product has no competition for its price.
The multifunction station offers the following functions:
- shortening (.17-.460)
- bordering (internal and external)
- match bed cleaning (large and small match)
Shortening:
The hardened steel shortening cutter accurately shortens each ofyour cartridge cases to the distance from the shoulders of the case to the endof the neck.
Before shortening, you will select the appropriate adapter(nipple) for proper tightness and alignment of the cartridge case, as well as analuminum insert to match the neck diameter.
Then you just set the micrometer to the appropriate length andyou can start shortening.
Edging
Edging is done with 2 tools from the outside of the neck andfrom the inside of the neck.
The tools are made of high quality material and arehardened.
Cleaning primer pocket
Cleaning the primer pocekt is done with only onetool.
One is for small primers and the other is for largeprimers.
Thanks to the grooving on the undersides of the tools, cleaningthe bottom of the primer pocket is really thorough..
You can use all manufacturers' tools with 8/32 thread in thestation.
Overall rating:
- Unlike competitive products, the station has the advantage ofperforming all the basic cartridge case conditioning operations.
- The atypical radiusing (roughening) of the bottom of theprimer pocket cleaning tools cleans perfectly.
- After repeated measurements, the trimming is by far the mostaccurate I have ever worked with.
- Also crucial is that you don't need cartridge holders orso-called trimmer pillots for each caliber separately.
- The station is universal and you can trim pretty much allbottle-shaped cartridges on it.
Personally, I add one more operation to the cartridge casetrimming, and that is cleaning the inside of the neck with a nylon brush, butmore on that in another article.
