Break-in of new rifle
Break-in of the barrel is a thing that some shooters smile andwave their hands at, while other shooters talk about it as a necessity.
Basically, it is a "break-in" of a new barrel where you shoot andclean at certain intervals. This process should remove any burrs or edges fromthe barrel that were created during the manufacturing of the rifle.
Afterthe break-in, there should be less fouling of the carbon, copper and otherresidues in the barrel (making the rifle easier to clean) and should improve theaccuracy potential of the rifle. That's what everyone wants, right?
When I got my new Sako S20 Hunter 6.5 Creedmoor this summer, Idecided to give the Break-in a try. I studied some videos and took the rifle,ammo and cleaning case and headed to the range.
There are plenty of "how to do a proper break-in" videos on theinternet. I'm not very good at cleaning guns, so I went with the simplerapproach:
Series 1: 1 shot and then clean the barrel. I repeated theseries five times
Series 2: 2 shots and then clean the barrel. Again, Irepeated five times
Series 3: 3 shots and then clean the barrel. And again,repeat the whole thing five times.

And the result? Was the 3.5 hours of cleaning at therange worth it? Hard to say, accuracy is excellent, gun is clean. Personally, Ihad a great feeling that I did something good for my rifle....
