BOG Adrenaline shooting stick monopod
HOW I MADE MY CHOICE?
I am 203 cm tall, so my first criterion for selecting a hunting stick was based on the maximum length to which the folding shooting stick can extend. My second criterion was the strength (rigidity) of the construction, with weight as my third priority. In my case, the shooting stick Adrenaline Switcheroo Monopod by the American brand BOG won this small contest.
- Maximum Length of 180 cmThe support can extend up to a height of 180 cm, which is more than sufficient for my height—in fact, I don’t even need to extend it fully. Usually, it’s enough to extend it to about 165 cm (from the ground to the lower edge of the fork). This feature further supports the second criterion, which this stick meets perfectly: high construction strength.
- High Construction StrengthThe Adrenaline hunting stick is designed as a telescopic trekking pole with a shooting fork. This design gives it a very sturdy construction, and the locks for each telescopic segment use a classic, reliable lever quick-release mechanism instead of a screw mechanism. The top (strongest) of the four segments has a diameter of 22 mm, while the bottom (thinnest) segment is 14 mm. This combination makes the stick strong enough for a hunter to lean on it if needed for support while walking. Additionally, its strength is further enhanced by the fact that the stick doesn’t need to be fully extended, particularly the lower segment.
- Acceptable WeightAlthough the stick is made from lightweight materials (aluminum), the increased amount of "mass" in its construction is noticeable. At 600 g, the BOG Adrenaline Monopod is certainly no featherweight, and you’ll feel it during a walk through the forest. On the other hand, this weight gives the stick a feeling of reliability and stability that I missed in lighter shooting sticks. Additionally, even after a two-hour stalk, the stick’s weight didn’t bother me-unlike the weight of the Mauser M18 on my shoulder, which gradually started to cause some discomfort, signaling that it was time to head home.
SUMMARY
The rifle sits securely in the fork with a soft surface, providing a stable shot. Thanks to the integrated Switcheroo system, the standard fork can be replaced with an alternative or simply removed to go for a walk without it—in that case, the stick is indistinguishable from a traditional trekking pole. Additionally, the bottom section features a retractable steel spike, which serves as an anti-slip accessory for difficult terrain. However, during a hunting walk, you’ll want to retract it to prevent it from clinking against rocks and alerting game.
Overall, the BOG Adrenaline hunting support left a very positive impression on me, and I will continue to use it. For now, I’ve lost the urge to try a bipod as well, because I highly value the straightforwardness of its design and use, along with the exceptional portability of this stick.
